Serving our neighbors in Rutland
When you give or volunteer here, you are feeding people breakfast four days a week, stocking a food pantry and a clothes closet, and setting a table for neighbors coming home from prison. This is our primary mission, and it started in this building.
Rutland Neighbors, Inc.
Soon after moving to our current location in 2017, Rutland United Methodist began a small feeding ministry that provided a warm safe place and a light breakfast. Most mornings, maybe 20 or so people came and took part. We called it the “Comfort Zone.” Since then, that work has grown and grown.
The Day Center now feeds hundreds of homeless and marginalized people breakfast and lunch four days a week. There is a food pantry and a clothes closet. Other churches and social agencies have partnered to create one of the largest organizations in the area, taking care of the homeless and marginalized. The organization took on a new name that reflected the holistic approach to serving our neighbors: Rutland Neighbors, Inc.
Rutland Neighbors, Inc. has now become a full-fledged social agency. They hope to move to a new location, adding even more services and care.
We are proud of the work we have done in birthing this critical work, and the way this mission has grown inside the walls of our church and in the hearts of our parishioners.
As the work moves to a new facility and stands alone, we continue to support this work as our primary mission by giving money and countless volunteer hours.
